Hasn’t your current conclussion missed a point. That until a winner emerges or hybrid players become the norm the consumer loses?

A nice summarisation Mr Wordsworth however I do have a few points:

Firstly, the pornographic industry is going for HD-DVD as it’s cheaper. Historically, whoever they support wins as they have so much control over everything.

Secondly, you can buy dual players now for around £700 which will eventually fall in price, so this may end up like the battle between DVD+ and DVD-

I’m personally plumping for HD-DVD but that’s purely because I don’t like Sony :p

Anyway, nice set of comparisons, one of the factors that might influence not covered is of course the rumoured but denied blu-ray bans porn story that did the rounds in January. It seems it was false, but it would’ve hit confidence. Was the lack of porn that killed betamax after all…

TBH, I think HD-DVD has the better name, Blu-Ray is a marketing thing, HD is an abbreviation but like you say, not going to be buying either for awhile (well, until I can get a drive for the PC and it’s worth the effort anyway).

We’ll see.
