Not entirely following your meaning here, but I&#039;m wondering if you&#039;re thinking something along the lines of the Facebook platform?  Because I really do think that may be the way to go for a lot of sites.

Also?  More plugin recs, I think I mentioned subscribe to Comments already, but get that as it&#039;ll remind me to come back, but also for the crossposting:

Because the comment count appearing on your LJ would mean you can turn off comments there (and thus get discussion in the same place) but people can see there that discussion is going on.</description>
